BRIGHTON & HOVE , NEWS & DEVELOPMENTS
This collection opens with a different approach to photographing buses, perhaps? My objective was to capture each of the Coaster branded Scania Omnidekkas then in service at various locations along the scenic, frequent and heavily trafficked route 12. At that time, Route 12 followed the A259 direct between Brighton and Eastbourne while route 12A left the A259 at East Dean and diverted via Birling Gap and Beachy Head. Route 13 was a Sunday only service. The photos were taken over a period of about 3 weeks in June 2006. Follow the alphabetical sequence for the trip between Brighton and Eastbourne, and back.
In a wider context, the transport scene in any area often has a tendency to change in a quiet and barely noticed fashion. Major developments such as the introduction into service of new vehicles are usually very well covered with no lack of general photos of the vehicles concerned being widely available.
It is the finer detailing that can so often go un-noticed and unrecorded in the more general views and which can be so valuable to researchers and modellers in future years. Some of those changes, along with what might be other points of interest from the Brighton scene, have been recorded in this gallery along with some more general views. Where possible the actual date of the photo has been shown (or, an indication given of the period during which it was taken)
This collection now contains many of the Brighton related photos that were included previously in a number of different galleries on Stuart’s former Fotopic site. Some have been lost but if the opportunity is available to retrieve those, I will do so. In some instances the photos allow comparisons to be made between the actual and the diecast model of that or the checking of detail. Terry Kempshall
